The Tea Horse Road (Cha Ma Gu Dao) was a network of trails nearly 2,000mi long, linking the Chinese provinces of Sichuan and Yunnan to Tibet, Bhutan, Nepal, and India.

Traders travelled on horseback or on foot with pack horses, hence the name.

Tea was central but other commodities such as salt, silk, and silver — not to mention beliefs such as Buddhism — were exchanged along the Tea Horse Road.
